About Dr. Kia Shahlaie

A native of Northern California, Dr. Shahlaie has extensive academic and clinical training in neurosurgery,. Dr. Shahlaie is one of only few neurosurgeons in the US that is fellowship trained in Minimally Invasive Endoscopic and Skull Base Neurosurgery.
Teaching: Dr. Shahlaie is the Vice Chair of Education in the Department of Neurological Surgery at UC Davis, where he also serve as Residency Program Director. An award winning instructor at the UC Davis School of Medicine, Dr. Shahlaie regularly lectures at regional, national, and international physician and patient conferences.
Research: Dr. Shahlaie directs numerous clinical studies including studies of new drugs and novel surgical techniques. Dr. Shahlaie also has an active pre-clinical research program in his laboratory at the Center for Neuroscience in Davis, California. He has authored numerous book chapters and has published over 65 articles on a variety of neurosurgical topics.
Outreach: Dr. Shahlaie is dedicated to giving back to his community and mentoring students interested in neuroscience and medicine. Dr. Shahlaie is a specialty advisor at the UC Davis School of Medicine, a faculty director of the Pre-Medical Shadowing and Research Program, and works with numerous pre-medical, medical, and graduate student groups. Dr. Shahlaie also works with community organizations dedicated to improving quality of life for patients with neurological disorders, and is on the Board of Directors for multiple regional foundations.
